Australia has already had four years to implement its #OPCAT obligations to establish a National Preventative Mechanism. It’s time federal, state and territory governments treated protection from torture as a political priority #auslaw #auspol
The Committee Against Torture (CAT) and Subcommittee on Prevention against Torture (SPT) have granted Australia's request for a one year extension to its obligation under OPCAT to establish a National Preventive Mechanism. Australia will now have until 20 January 2023.
