For over a year, ISD researchers delved into the little known or understood Salafi community of “Islamogram.” What they found was a fundamental shift in Gen-Z Salafi activism, where the aesthetics & tropes of the alt-right are fueling a convergence unlike we’ve seen before. 🧵

From what I've read so far, this is v useful and interesting. It's not surprising that online Salafis appropriate imagery/use the same narratives as online far-right. Both have similar underlying political impulses (reactionary) and shared distrust of a number of out groups.
Delighted to be releasing our new @ISDglobal report series on the rapidly transforming digital Salafi ecosystem - mapping Salafism’s trajectory as an emerging Gen-Z online counter culture, including the ‘alt-rightification’ of elements of these communities isdglobal.org/digital_dispat…

In a deep dive on the cross-platform ‘Islamogram’ ecosystem, @MoustafaAyad sheds lights on the online communities merging Salafi ideas with alt-right memes and gaming subcultures, representing an ideologically ‘hybridised’ trajectory for online extremism isdglobal.org/isd-publicatio…
