Unit 4 -Injustice in US history
A thread
Week 1- Analyze "Trail of Tears" poem then write your own based on 3 words they identified with from source text. Support w/ articles, videos, etc. on injustice against indigenous people. Start with the truth of Christopher Columbus.
A class of @BostonSchools students was given a poetry assignment: examine stereotypes in your neighborhood. Poems were posted around the school for others to read.
A white, middle-aged visitor to the school photographed one of the poems, about his neighborhood of West Roxbury.
grateful for @DingleTeach's wise words today! You can never have different hats when it comes to your different identities! In this case parent + equity scholar! #LAUSDparent#equity
I think asking your black friends or co-workers how they are doing after mass shooting in Buffalo is the least we could do. Asking us to have high energy after a dad went to buy cake for a 3 years old birthday and doesn’t return because he was targeted as black man has me sick.
"Racism is built into the DNA of America. And as long as we turn a blind eye to the pain of those suffering under its oppression, we will never escape those origins." ~Annalise Keating
teachers knew this school year was going to be a yo-yo of craziness, students knew it was going to continue to be hard
somehow, some superintendents thought this year was going to be recovery
all i can think is we measure the wrong things and care about the wrong metrics
Whiteness is power. Power feels threatened.
"Similar attacks are afoot abroad. In Britain a government minister declared in October that the government was “unequivocally against” the concept, even though records show that the phrase “critical race theory” had never once been
I’ve missed many, but really just trying to make the point that Black women are doing a lot of work out here. We are cited, we are called upon as experts, but we are all massively under-funded relative to challenges ahead.
Buffalo police confirm that they were able to disarm the mass shooter with just their words while he was still holding his AR-15.
We will say this again: police do not need more training, they know how to de-escalate certain situations & escalate others when they see fit.
Black storytelling literary devices are my favorite.
1. Introduction: “So tell me why…”
2. Climax: “Come to find out”
3. Resolution & Closing remarks: “At the end of the day…”

When teachers say they don’t want to “add” trauma informed approaches or ABAR strategies, bc they want to “just teach” their content area, with all due respect: they’re wrong.
This is not an add on. IT IS THE HOW. And it’s how teaching should have always been.
RE Buffalo: Discussed the racist origins of gun laws in america.
Then analyzed gun laws in CA. Pointed out CA was an open carry state til these pics in 1967. By end of 1968 it wasn’t.
“Change takes time” is the language of those in power. Change takes as much time as they want.
I’m not going to lie, this Buffalo shooting has hit to my core. Hate has a way of disturbing all peace. They were just shopping for food in a community already greatly deprived of resources. The only store available.
White people, talk to your family.
Open your mouths. And talk.
So that boy grew up in an all white suburb with every resource but was scared Black ppl would somehow get resources during climate change so drove 3 hours to a Black neighborhood with no resources and murdered grandmothers
Believing wholeheartedly the whole time he was a victim
