Relevant reminder, as NYC approaches high transmission level again, that the NYC DOE does NOT HAVE any on ramps for reinstituting mitigations like masks. There are no on ramps at all. There’s only the intention to continue allowing 1000s of students/staff get sick every week.

At what point do we say it was wrong to remove mask mandates especially at @NYCSchools where thousands of students/staff every day the past few weeks have tested positive for COVID-19? At what point of cases/hospitalizations do indoor mask mandates resume @NYCMayor?
NEW: NYC strongly recommending everyone wears masks indoors as the city approaches the CDC high alert level, triggered by rising hospitalizations. Alert later today will urge high-quality masks — such as KN95 and KF94 masks and N95 respirators — when indoors in public.

I think I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: we have a racism AND a gun problem in this country and it’s not a good combination.
Y’all don’t understand… Tops on Jefferson… is in the hood… in Buffalo… probably the Blackest neighborhood in Western NY… and somebody drove over four hours to come and shoot it up… literally because of skin color

We've received reports of discolored tap water in the vicinity of Boerum Hill/Cobble Hill/downtown Brooklyn. The water remains safe but residents should avoid consuming discolored water. Crews are opening hydrants in the neighborhoods to clear discolored water from the system.

To Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill/Columbia St. Waterfront neighbors experiencing tap water discoloration: DEP is flushing hydrants to clear the discolored water from water mains which should resolve the issue. I am waiting to know the cause and a timeline - I’ll share updates.

Buh bye Teachers College! 🙌🏼 #phonics #reading #dyslexia
Big news: NYC will mandate elementary schools use phonics-based programs, affecting 200+ schools that will need to make changes Principals usually have wide leeway to pick reading curriculum, but that seems to be ending w/ @the_zim + @yoavgonen ny.chalkbeat.org/2022/5/12/2…

New: Michael Mulgrew, president of NYC's teachers union, was re-elected to a fifth term with ~66% of the vote. It's the lowest margin he's earned since winning his first full term in 2010.

To protect the right to choose, voters need to elect more pro-choice senators this November, and return a pro-choice majority to the House. If they do, Congress can pass this bill in January, and put it on my desk, so I can sign it into law.

The only people wearing masks: 1. Been f*cked up so bad by covid they aren't chancing another infection. 2. Scared to get covid for the 1st time because they're paying attention to science. 3. Actually care about the vulnerable & want to protect them. 4. Any or all of the above.

Covid cases among are ⬆️ rapidly at many NYC Schools, including mine and a Brooklyn elementary school where 18 teachers are now sick. This isn’t safe, & it isn’t quality, consistent school time. And once again, the mayor & UFT are just standing by silently, letting it happen.

So let me get this straight: wearing a mask to save lives during a pandemic should be a personal choice, but what a pregnant person does with their own body should be mandated by the government?
