Perfectionism is based on an obsessive belief that if you run carefully enough, hitting each stepping-stone just right, you won’t have to die. The truth is that you’ll die anyway & a lot of people who aren’t even looking at their feet are going to do better than you & have fun.

Along w/the obsessional fallacy you illuminate a competitive one—reminding me of the tale of two safari-goers awakened by a tiger’s growl. One leaps up and begins running, after which his companion yells, “You can’t possibly outrun the beast!!” 1/2

“Outrun the beast, Hell,” comes the reply, “I only need to outrun YOU.” Death indeed surrounds us, with no additional benefit to denying the inevitability of our own or advancing that of others;) 2/x
