They’re really gonna openly block voting rights, childcare, paid leave, climate action, immigration reform, affordable housing, and pre-K, and then turn right around and blame progressives, aren’t they?

Weird having a real baby when you’ve spent 5 years pretending your cat was one

I will pass that along to the *hospital staff in the middle of a pandemic*

This story really has not broken through but, again, ****23 million of 39 million**** Afghans already do not have enough food to eat, per aid groups The US has choked off much international aid while effectively seizing the country's government assets washingtonpost.com/world/202…

Only the DC press corps could look at modern America and think the current conflict is because we “just don’t like each other”

We had decades-long ground wars, a massive recession, grievous racial inequality, followed by a once in a century pandemic set to kill over a million people. And our political institutions were unable to effectively address any of this. It's more than just not liking each other!

Of course beltway reporters like Harris see politics as playing out between partisan elites, independent of the material needs of the people they represent, so to them, this is all a conflict over nothing.

"It is now an article of faith on the left that these [Jan. 6] goons were determined to 'destroy democracy.' But that wasn’t their actual intent. They believed Trump’s story. They believed they were saving democracy from a coup." bariweiss.substack.com/p/the…

For all the knocks on the left, I don't think one is that we underestimate the power of the GOP's propaganda machine. Here's Ta-Nehisi Coates the day after the insurrection:

If we are to address the root causes of this insurrection, we have to understand, deep within ourselves, that we are human beings like other human beings on this planet, with the same flaws and the same ambitions and the same fragilities. My reflections. theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…

It remains extremely odd how the 2000 election has been memory-holed. It not only served as a template for what happened in 2020, but part of Trump's strategy relied on Rehnquist's concurrence in Bush v. Gore.
Whose idea was it to name check **George W. Bush** as a Republican who believes in not stealing elections?!
