Clearly, this is the moral bankruptcy of the Johnson government - and the Met - on steroids
In Downing Street there is a sense of injustice and considerable upset that the 126 Partygate fines have been levied disproportionately on women and junior officials. One source said: “the majority of [those fined] are very junior diary managers etc on 24k-ish and these fines…

💥 NEW: Sue Gray's full partygtae report is unlikely to be the "nail in the coffin" for Boris Johnson, according to senior Whitehall officials. The report, due next week, is expected to be highly critical. But officials say it won't be a "killer blow" ft.com/content/9fe9b264-29b9…

Most voters, in my experience.
If you have spent the past three months claiming that the PM repeatedly lied, broke the law etc, today might be a good day to keep quiet.

🚨Whether the PM escaped more fines because of this, or because police classed No 10 as his home, we don’t know. Either way 83 people in No 10 *did* get fined - a total of 126 times - for attending same events. Now feels as good a time as any to remind them my DMs are open.

A reminder that the PM was at the events for which aides received fines, but appears to have escaped more FPNs himself. Suggests the Met believe that his presence at these was "reasonably necessary" for work purposes, but their's wasn't.

So, if I understand this correctly, there are large numbers of junior Downing Street staff who’ve been fined for attending parties the prime minister was at, but he hasn’t. That just seems all perfectly healthy and completely normal.

Brazen ludicrousness is the modern English condition
I think the outcome of the Met investigation is that the Prime Minister attended 6 illegal gatherings but attended 5 of them legally

For partygate/beergate crossover aficionados, the fact Johnson has seemingly been able to argue the "reasonably necessary for work purposes" element *very* broadly would perhaps count in favour for Starmer, whose work excuse seems notably stronger.

The selections for Labour candidates needs to be more democratic and we should end NEC impositions of candidates. Local Party members should select their candidates for every election.
