This is a really fantastic piece about #NarrativeMedicine and how it can open the door for true #ParticipatoryMedicine. (The piece also includes part of a poem by one of my favorite poets.❤️)
New on the e-Patients Blog of the Society for Participatory Medicine: "Tell Me Your Story: How Narrative Medicine Fosters Trust," by narrative health activist Derek McCracken participatorymedicine.org/ep… HT @intellusww @s4pm #narrativemedicine #healthequity

This is exactly the sort of misinformation that the #participatorymedicine movement is aimed at. Collaboration between patients and clinicians/researchers is the goal
Replying to @janoldenburg
Some misinformation comes from a refusal by clinicians, regulators and manufacturers of medicines & medical devices to hear what patients are saying. As with victims of #mesh who were told "it's just women's problems". Report: pexlib.net/?223550

All of this matters because in healthcare we risk people's lives if we don't help people think critically. I think it also puts #participatorymedicine at risk, as "I've done my own research" is increasingly conflated with ignorance rather than engagement. #misinformationeconomy

What is #ParticipatoryMedicine and how it's improving #healthoutcomes? Participatory Medicine is demonstrating a positive impact on patient outcomes, adherence to treatments, an appropriate use of resources and costs, and the quality of the attention. 👉 bit.ly/3KBSUfX

So sorry to read Brian’s horrible experience at the ER due to anchoring bias. Physicians & nurses need to be trained on how to guard against this bias, as it can prevent or complicate proper & timely care. #psychologyinmedicine #participatorymedicine
I had the most astonishing, embarrassing, and inadequate experience of my life with @UVAhealth last night/early this AM. The symptoms started at around 8:30p (1/many)

Enjoyed discussing my views on #consumerhealth, #healthcare #trends, & #participatorymedicine from a PCP perspective with @ChilmarkHIT, one of the sharpest #digitalhealth industry analyst firms I know. @DiameterHealth @medisafeapp @conversahealth @S4PM
What does it take for providers to meaningfully engage with their patients and help them become active participants in their care journey? We sat down with @DrDannySands to find out. chilmark.co/3r765Nx #HealthIT #PatientJourney

Clinicians heroically performed a lot of tech support to patients during visits to make telemedicine work, the platforms and required setting adjustments were challenging and need more simplification #telemedicine #participatorymedicine #COVID19
Congratulations to all you physicians out there. It seems that if a telemedicine visit didn't work, typically, it was due to patient factors not physician factors. As we hopefully continue to use telemedicine, we need to mitigate these patient problems. buff.ly/3BPLFvW
This is a TERRIFIC essay on the nature of our cultural evolution toward #ParticipatoryMedicine. I'll be back with more to say on this later. @healthhats @DrDannySands @LizSalmi @TessaJLRichards @BMJPatientEd @MightyCasey pls tag more peeps thx
‘Healthcare consumerism’ is meant to give patients more information and choice in making medical decisions. But it can also downgrade the role of their doctors. Do patients feel abandoned? wsj.com/articles/can-patient… via @WSJ @taraparkerpope @cdcaron
