Roger Angell, one of the nation’s premier baseball writers, is dead at 101. In elegantly winding articles for The New Yorker loaded with inventive imagery, he wrote more like a fan than a sports journalist. nyti.ms/39FUtvW

Hey, it's HOW LUCKY's paperback release day. Today! You can buy it from my local bookstore, @AvidBookshop, here in Athens right here. It has been a year since HOW LUCKY was released in hardcover, and it's fair to say it has changed my life. 🧵🧵🧵avidbookshop.com/book/978006…
I wrote HOW LUCKY entirely on spec -- I didn't even tell my agent I was working on it until I finished it and physically handed 300 pages printed out from the UPS Store to him -- and I told him I didn't care how much it sold for. I just wanted it published SOMEWHERE.
We went through a ton of revisions, and we were turned down by many publishers -- almost all of them, really! -- until it found a home with @harperbooks. They understood it, and trusted it would find an audience. And, amazingly, they were right.
I’ve been blown away by the response to HOW LUCKY, by how connected readers to feel to Daniel, how much this little passion project has meant to people. (Including this guy.)
I'm reading a fantastic novel by Will Leitch called HOW LUCKY. Publishes in May, I think. It's suspenseful and often wildly funny. You are going to like this a lot, and I think a lot of you are going to like it. It has that WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING vibe.
The support of the SMA community, including the incredible humans at @curesma, has meant the world to me and, really, justified the whole project. The book is better, truer, kinder, because of them.
This week, I’m turning in my next book, the first of two novels I’m now contracted for @harperbooks, a direct result of the support -- your support -- of HOW LUCKY. It turns out I truly love writing these, and hopefully they’ll let me write them forever.
Either way, though, my life, my career and, really, my entire worldview has been changed by the response to HOW LUCKY. It has been a year since release, and now there’s the paperback, and there are more books coming. I’m so fortunate. So thank you.
Also, I miss Daniel. He’s the person I wish I were in so many ways.
If you haven't heard his story yet, you should check it out. (In hardcover! Or paperback! Or audio! Whichever you prefer!)

This week on "The Long Game With LZ and Leitch," @LZGranderson and I spoke with @Jack9Flaherty about baseball's unwritten rules, his ongoing rehab and how the WNBA will lead the way on athlete activism in the wake of the Roe v. Wade Court draft. Listen! therecount.com/podcasts/the-…
For @nymag, I wrote about baseball's "unwritten rules," which sure seem to exist solely to justify young men being angry at each other. nymag.com/intelligencer/2022…
